Overview
Socket allows you to apply a discount to individual services within a proposal.
Discounts can be applied as either a fixed amount or a percentage, with an required explanation to provide clarity for your client.
This gives you flexibility when tailoring proposals without changing your core pricing.
How to Apply a Discount to a Service
Open the Proposal Services Screen
Open the proposal you want to update.
Navigate to the 'Services' tab.
Select the Service
Find the service you want to discount.
Select any drivers on this service to get the pre-discounted price
Apply the Discount
Open 'More Actions' for the selected service.
Choose 'Apply Discount'.
Choose the Discount Type
Select whether the discount is a fixed amount or a percentage.
Enter the value you want to apply.
Add an Explanation
Use the explanation box to describe why the discount has been applied. A genuine reason should be entered for client transparency, but you don't want to give a reason you can enter a whitespace character to bypass the explanation field.
Review the Updated Pricing
Check the updated service price.
The discounted amount will be reflected in the proposal total.
Please note, discounts only apply to the individual proposal and do not change any pricing on your pricing menu for other proposals.
What if I want to increase a service price?
To increase the price of a service line in a proposal, you can add a custom process instead. Custom processes add either a flat fee or an hourly rate on top of the existing service fee, with a mandatory note that can be set as internal or shared with the client.
Timed or introductory discounts
Socket does not have a discount that automatically ends on a set date, so a timed offer like "50% for the first 6 months, then full price" is a manual process. The tidiest way is to apply the discount on the proposal now, then use a Minor Adjustment to remove it when the introductory period ends. The adjustment keeps a clear audit trail of the change. You will need to set your own calendar reminder for when to make that adjustment, as Socket will not prompt you.
If you would rather keep your Socket pricing at full price, another option is to apply the discount at the invoice stage in Xero instead. Setting up a separate future pricing menu will not give you a per-client timed discount, because pricing menus apply across your whole practice rather than to one client's timeline.
