Overview

You can enable user roles to control the access level of your additional users, helping you to choose what different team members can see and do within the platform. This helps ensure the right level of access across your practice, based on each user’s role.

There are four user roles in Socket:

  1. Apprentice

  2. Member

  3. Admin

  4. Owner

Setting New User Roles

User roles are set against user profiles from the 'Current Team' section of 'Manage Team' settings.

Navigate to 'Practice Settings' and select 'Manage Team' from the settings menu on the left side. You must choose a team role each time you add a new user, and you can always edit team roles by clicking on and editing any of your current team members.

Overview of User Roles

Apprentice

Apprentice users are designed for team members who need visibility into client work but don’t need to manage proposals or settings.

Apprentice users:

  • Can create, make edits, and adjustments to existing proposals.

  • Can view and edit clients and proposal activity.

  • Cannot send proposals.

  • Do not have access to billing.

  • Do not have access to practice settings.

  • Do not have access to pricing or document templates.

Member

Members have similar access as apprentices, with the additional ability to send proposals to clients.

Member users:

  • Can create, edit, adjust and send proposals.

  • Can view and edit clients and proposal activity.

  • Do not have access to billing.

  • Do not have access to practice settings.

  • Do not have access to pricing or document templates.

While apprentice users can view, create, and edit proposals and clients, the member role is more suited to users who need to regularly send out proposals.

For practices with a sign off process, you can enable the approval workflow to add an internal approval step before sending proposals out.

Admin

Admin users have full access to manage how Socket is configured and used across the practice.

Admin users:

  • Can create, edit, and send proposals.

  • Have access to billing.

  • Have access to practice settings.

  • Have access to pricing and document templates.

  • Can manage users and configurations.

Owner

The Owner role has the same permissions as an Admin, with the addition of being set as the owner of the practice in Socket. You can set multiple owners to one practice.

Owner users:

  • Have full access to all areas of Socket.

  • Are the designated owner of the practice.

  • Typically responsible for subscription and account ownership.

Choosing the Right Role

Assigning the correct user role helps keep your practice secure while ensuring each team member has access to what they need.

  • Use Apprentice for junior team members who don’t need to send proposals.

  • Use Member for users responsible for client-facing proposals.

  • Use Admin or Owner for users managing pricing, templates, billing, and practice settings.
